Start Treatment Faster With Same-Day Aligners

Clear aligners are an increasingly popular option for patients of all ages who want the benefits of straight teeth and a beautiful smile, but without the hassles (and super-visibility) of traditional metal bands and brackets. As popular as aligners are, there’s one downside to having them: You need to wait — sometimes several weeks — between your initial office visit and the arrival of your aligners. That’s a few weeks before treatment can begin, and a few extra weeks before you’ll be able to see your beautiful final results.

At Reese Orthodontics in New Hope and Chanhassen, Minnesota, we offer patients a no-wait solution, with 3D-printed aligners that can be ready right away. These same-day clear aligners are just as high-quality and just as effective as traditional aligners from an off-site lab, and they offer all the same benefits. Are they right for you?

Why are aligners so popular?

Plenty of people would love to have straight, healthy-looking teeth — but the idea of wearing metal braces or two or more years just isn’t appealing, especially for adult patients. Then about 20 years ago, the first clear aligners were introduced by Invisalign®. Since then, the number of patients opting for aligners over traditional braces has soared.

Obviously, one of the biggest reasons why aligners are so popular is that clear design — they’re almost invisible in your mouth. But they have other benefits, too:

A lot has changed since aligners were first introduced a little more than 20 years ago. Same-day aligners are the latest innovation making aligners an even more popular option among teens and adults.

How are same-day aligners made?

Whether you’re getting same-day aligners or traditional aligners from a lab, your treatment begins in the usual way, with detailed digital renderings of your teeth and their positions. With traditional aligners, those renderings would be sent to a lab that specializes in making clear orthodontic aligners, and you’d wait your turn — typically two weeks or more — to have your aligners made and shipped back to our office.

Same-day aligners use state-of-the-art 3D printing technology, combined with special orthodontic software, to create one-of-a-kind, custom aligners right in the office. Once the digital scans and measurements of your teeth are made, that data is fed into a computer system that’s hooked to a digital printer. The printer uses advanced computer-aided manufacturing technology to “build” your aligners layer-by-layer using durable, clear material made especially for orthodontic aligners.

After your aligners are ready, we’ll run through a final fitting and adjustment so you can expect the same comfortable fit you’d have with lab-created aligners. And just like those traditional aligners, your 3D aligners will be clear and discreet, designed to give you straighter teeth and a more dazzling, confident smile in the same amount of time. With 3D same-day aligners, you get all the benefits of traditional aligners, but without the annoying wait.

Are 3D aligners the right choice for everyone?

Clear aligners are a great choice for many patients, but they’re not ideal for everyone — that goes for aligners made in a lab, as well as the ones created in our office. During your initial consultation, we’ll evaluate your teeth, examining the way they’re positioned and the way they work together to bite and chew. Then we’ll be able to tell if aligners are right for you or if you might benefit from another type of orthodontic treatment

At Reese Orthodontics, we offer an array of orthodontic appliances, so we can make sure to recommend the option that’s ideal for every patient. That’s a major benefit over orthodontic practices that offer only a couple of treatment options. With so many options to consider, you can be confident you’ll get the treatment you need for the results you want.

Straight teeth are certainly more attractive, and they can help you feel more confident, too. But it’s not all about cosmetics. Straighter teeth are easier to care for, and that means your orthodontic treatment could help you enjoy better oral health, as well.
